Can You Hear Me?

I wrote this song my sophomore year of High School.  While on vacation in Florida I managed to sneak out of my grandmother’s house and walk to the beach with my guitar.  November 2004.

The water’s shadow rises
Its form is dark against the sky
And there’s a moment before the crash
When all it has has been lifted

I want to tell you
That I’ve been thinking of you
And I want to know you again

Your palm feels soft against my fingers
The surface moist where we are touching
And there’s a moment before my hand
Let’s go the sand it was clutching

Can you hear me?
I’ve been calling your name
Seems my voice has been wasted
On this empty coast

And can you see me?
I can always see you
Seems my eyes have been wasted
On a ghost
